Emergency Procedures: Care Partners and Fleet Drivers should be trained in basic first aid and emergency response procedures. This includes knowing how to handle medical emergencies that may arise during transport.
Incident Reporting: Any incidents or near-misses must be reported immediately to the appropriate CareCar authority, followed by a thorough review and action plan to prevent future occurrences.
No Distractions: Care Partners and Fleet Drivers are prohibited from using mobile devices (except for navigation and service-related communication) or engaging in distracting activities while driving.
2. Wheelchair Safety Policy:
Securement: Care Partners and Fleet Drivers operating WAVs must ensure that all wheelchairs are properly secured using designated tie-down systems before the vehicle is in motion. This includes checking that the wheelchair is facing forward and that all tie-down straps are securely fastened.
Inspection: Regularly inspect wheelchair securement equipment for wear and tear. Any defective equipment must be replaced immediately.
Assistance: Care Partners and Fleet Managers should assist passengers in boarding and exiting the vehicle, ensuring that ramps or lifts are used correctly and safely.
3. Seatbelt Use Policy:
Mandatory Use: All passengers, including those in wheelchairs, must wear seatbelts while the vehicle is in motion. Care Partners and Fleet Drivers are responsible for ensuring compliance.
Regular Checks: Seatbelts should be checked regularly for signs of wear or malfunction. Any issues should be addressed immediately.
